kOOii artist support and promotion is inviting artists to send in work for a group exhibition at the kOOii Gallery in Hokandara, Sri Lanka.
The topic for this 3rd PostcART project is: TOYS & GAMES Toys and games seem to be very important across culture and in all people’s lives. Toys are valued by
grownups and by children. They play a role in human and social development by providing consolation, stimulating creativity and curiosity, and learning to ‘play by the rules’.
Toys are linked with technology: some of them are homemade, others are highly sophisticated and
innovative.
states a lot about class, status, gender, and culture.
Toys represent a multi-billion dollar market. Revenues from toy sales worldwide hit some $72 billion in 2007, with a projection of $86.3 billion by 2010- with a large chunk of the growth in the Asian market- and as such further contributes to the commercialization of private lives and the globalization of children’s consumer culture where active ‘play’ is substituted by passive ‘entertainment’.
